APPLICATION FOR EL NYSA
THE CHARACTER
Character Name: Slaine Troyard
Series: Aldnoah.Zero
Canon Point: End of Season 1 (Episode 12)
Character Age: 16
Background: Here
Personality:
Timid, polite, and quiet, Slaine is an individual who has no place where he feels he belongs. Originally a boy from Earth, Slaine spent the latter years of his childhood growing up under Martian rule as a tutor to Princess Asseylum. The son of a respected researcher into Aldnoah, Slaine was begrudgingly taken into care by Martin nobility, only to be outright abused by them once his father passed away. To say Slaine has had a rough life is an understatement. He's always been lonely, even before he ended up crash landing on Mars. With his father wrapped up in his research and his mother out of the picture, Slaine was left to his own devices. He learned how to be by himself and to deal with loneliness early on, not having any friendships to make note of. It's only when he's pulled from the wreckage of a rocket by Asseylum and resuscitated that Slaine makes his first and only friend.
Much like the planets orbit the Sun, Slaine's life revolves entirely around Asseylum. He is completely and utterly devoted and loyal to her, to the point of extremism. It's understandable why he feels the way he does towards her. Not only did she quite literally save his life, but she's the only person to show him kindness. Starving for any sort of affection or validation, Slaine quickly latches onto her, making her existence what defines him. To put it simply, Slaine will do anything for her. It doesn't matter how many times he's beaten down, tortured, forced to kill or risk his life - if it's for her sake he'll do it without question.
This mentality has been fostered over a number of years thanks to the brutality he's faced by his Martian hosts. As a Terran, an Earth-born individual, he's scorned and faces envy by those from Mars thanks to the rocky political climate between the two planets. At the same time though he feels no connection to Earth's people despite being from Earth. It's this inability to find a place to belong that has him fixate so strongly on Asseylum in the first place - wherever she is, as long as he can be at her side, he can belong. If he can't be, his world is turned on its head, which is exactly what happens.
While Slaine holds his tongue and knows his place that doesn't mean he's exactly the spitting image of rational thought. In fact he's quite the opposite, at least if Asseylum is involved. He's shown to be rash and impulsive, sneaking about to get an audience with the Emperor to try and stop the war that's brought about by Asseylum's botched assassination attempt. He jumps into aircraft to fly down to Earth in a bid to try and rescue her and loses his cool whenever he thinks she's in danger. This doesn't mean he's incapable of critical thinking - he's no fool - but a running occurrence is his heart gets the better of his head at the worst of times.
He's also no fan of violence either. It's telling that it's initially Slaine's dream of peace between the two planets that inspires Asseylum to attempt to be a goodwill ambassador for Mars, even though that plan doesn't exactly pan out the way it was meant to. Death is also something he's uncomfortable with, especially if it's himself doing the killing. While he has what one can assume is basic military training it's only when he goes down to Earth that he shoots someone for the first time. The first time we see him shoot someone he's hesitant, clearly conflicted. Even after the deed is done it's obvious he's mortified at what he's done, despite having to to protect Asseylum. This hesitation and struggle to pull the trigger, even though it's always for Asseylum's sake that he does so, never seems to leave him. He may be quick to point a gun at someone but it's clear that Slaine never sees that person as someone who isn't human. Killing others and seeing others die bothers him right to the very end. Even though Slaine can deal with suffering himself, he can't stand to see others do so in turn.
Slaine is also, understandably, distrusting of others and their motives. Quite literally he spends the entire first season without anyone he's capable of trusting or depending on. Both Mars and Earth are out to get him, no matter what he does, to the point his efforts are practically in vain by the end. Watching Asseylum be shot in front of him has him snap, understandably, leading him to fall into despair (while emptying out a clip of bullets into the man who shot her). Needless to say this experience leaves Slaine more than a little unstable and willing to go to any extreme to save Asseylum's life.
There is more to Slaine than just his devotion to Asselyum. He's smart, appreciating the beauty of Earth's nature, and inherits his father's knowledge, at least to a degree, about Aldnoah and mechanical engineering in general. He's also a quick learner and a capable pilot, despite not having much practice operating aircraft or mobile suits. It could be said that Slaine has a big heart, it's just unfortunately guarded. He craves closeness and friendship but is understandably nervous and distrusting of everyone who isn't Asseylum. He can put on a polite face and sweet smile, but behind that is a constantly worrying mind. To become truly close to Slaine would take a lot of work, but if one succeeded he would be incredibly loyal and it's this loyalty, for better or worse, that makes him who he is.
Powers/Abilities:
- Aldnoah Drive permissions. Basically he's capable of activating technology that is powered by Aldnoah Drives.
- He is a capable pilot of space craft/air craft and can pilot mobile suits well enough.
- Capable of taking massive beatings.
- Standard military training.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): N/A. While Slaine does have Aldnoah Drive activation permissions, they're useless without an Aldnoah Drive being present.
Inventory: All Slaine has is the uniform he's wearing and the pistol on him. I doubt he'd complain about being given a few extra rounds of ammo though.
Incentives: All Slaine cares about, in all honesty, is having Asseylum wake up and be okay. Guarantee her safety and health
